Project Update Bulletin 5

The project update bulletin provides information on the latest construction progress of Gloucestershire’s Energy from Waste facility.

Foundation piling work has been completed. This means that civil engineering work is now concentrated on ground preparation, excavation of the bunker (where the waste will be discharged from the Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs) and stored before processing) and the boiler house, and pouring concrete ground beams and slabs to support the main facility structures and buildings. Excavation works for the boiler house will continue until mid-April; bunker excavation will continue until mid-June.

Proposals are being considered to use a technique known as slip forming, to construct the bunker and turbine building (the building that will house the steam turbine) during July and August this year.

Slip forming is a very efficient construction technique. It involves the continuous pouring, that is 24/7 of concrete for around three weeks to construct the bunker, and a similar process for five days to build the turbine hall.

Site operation Health and Safety continues to be maintained to a high standard. There are now approximately 90 people engaged at the site.
