wATER BOTTLE ROCKET WORKSHOP

Gloucestershire Energy from Waste hosts multiple workshops throughout the year. They range from Paper Making to our Copper Tree workshop, the theme being sustainability in our environment.

To date, we hold five workshops annually and all are free to attend for residents.

Whilst attending our workshops residents will also be able to view our Waste Reception Hall and Bunker, through the viewing windows in our Visitor Centre.

Advance booking is not available for any of our workshops. Please keep a look out for further information on our news page to book your space(s), when released.

Our school holiday workshops are a great way to spend some time with us creatively. All activities require an adult to accompany their child/children. Please see below the workshops we hold and their approximate placement in the year.

Poppy Seed Bomb Workshop in February Half-Term

Seed bombs are an exciting and simple way to bring wildflowers to life while supporting biodiversity. By combining seeds, soil, and clay, attendees will create their very own "mini ecosystems" that can be thrown or planted to help wildflowers flourish. These flowers play an important role in supporting pollinators like bees and butterflies, which are vital for healthy ecosystems. And here’s the best part: the seeds used in this workshop come from poppies grown at the facility, adding a local touch to your creations.

The 90-minute session is free to attend and is suitable for children from 7 to 15 years old.

Water Bottle Rockets in Easter Holiday

Held at the Facility’s Visitor Centre, the event introduces participants to the principles of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through a hands-on experiment. Attendees will design, decorate, and build their own bottle rockets using repurposed plastic bottles and cardboard before launching them from the Visitor Centre Garden to see how far they can soar. Along the way, they’ll learn about aerodynamics, propulsion, and the importance of reusing materials in fun and practical ways. The workshop is suitable for children from 7 to 15 years old.

Garden Scavenger Hunt in the Summer Holiday

Looking for a fun and educational activity to keep your kids engaged during the summer holidays? Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility hosts an annual FREE scavenger hunt for children aged 5 to 12 years. This exciting event is a fantastic opportunity to explore, learn, and enjoy the great outdoors!

Paper Making in October Half-Term

This hands-on session will highlight creative ways to recycle paper at home, turning junk mail, old bills, and scrap paper into fun craft projects. Ideal for beginners, the workshop runs for approximately two hours. All necessary supplies will be provided by the Facility. This workshop is suitable for children from 7 to 15 years old.

Copper Tree Workshop - For Adults

Transforming disused copper electrical wires into decorative ornamental trees will be the focus of the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility’s workshop, aimed at adults. Supporting the Facility’s sustainable waste management approach of the 4 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover), this mindful craft hobby will be taught in a 1.5 hour workshop using reused and donated materials.
