About Us

About the Company

FCC Environment
the waste and resource management company that looks at the bigger picture.

We care for both our customers and the environment. We help local authorities and businesses minimise the amount of waste that goes to landfill by transforming it into valuable resources, and we retrieve the full value of the resources we collect and process, so they can be used again and again. Waste that cannot be recycled, we transform into energy.

Investing in the future

Our goal of Net Zero has focused our efforts on increasing reuse and recycling activities and reducing carbon emissions in every part of our business.

This includes:

  1. investing in new technology

  2. harnessing the heat from energy from waste plants when feasible

  3. moving to zero-emissions vehicles and fuels on-site

  4. using rail rather than road

  5. microgeneration at former landfill sites

  6. boosting biodiversity when restoring closed sites.

About the Project

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility is designed to significantly reduce the amount of household residual waste landfilled in Gloucestershire by using the tried and tested technology of thermal treatment using combustion. This process is also monitored and regulated by the Environment Agency.

Aside from safely dealing with household residual waste which cannot readily be recycled or composted, the facility generates the equivalent electricity to power approximately 25,000 homes, and contributes to Gloucestershire’s overall renewable energy production.

The facility diverts over 90% of the county’s household residual waste from landfill, producing 14.5 MW of electricity, recovering aggregates and metals for recycling and has the potential for heat offtake. The facility employs around 40 people across a range of skills and expertise, and includes a visitor centre and education suite for use by schools and community groups by prior arrangement.
