Urbaser Balfour Beatty submits Planning Application for Gloucestershire’s Energy from Waste Facility

Gloucestershire took a step forward towards zero waste to landfill this week when Urbaser Balfour Beatty submitted its planning application for an energy-from-waste facility at Javelin Park, Haresfield, near junction 12 of the M5 motorway.
 
The Javelin Park energy from waste facility will generate electricity, produce sustainable aggregates and recover metals for recycling by treating the waste left over after residents have separated as much as possible for reuse, recycling and composting. The project will provide a boost to the local economy through the provision of construction-related jobs and a range of full-time employment opportunities once operational. Apprentices and students will also benefit as part of Urbaser Balfour Beatty’s commitment to serving the local communities.
 
Urbaser Project Director, Javier Peiro, commented on the announcement, “We wish to thank all of the local residents who attended the two public exhibitions we held in July and November 2011 as part of our pre-planning consultation. Comments received have helped us finalise our proposal and the planning application submitted this week. We have taken into account feedback received and we will continue to work closely with the community to ensure our facility protects the environment and delivers real benefit for the local community.”

As Waste Planning Authority, Gloucestershire County Council’s development control team will consider the application which includes conducting a statutory formal consultation process. At the end of this statutory consultation, the County Council’s planning officers will prepare a report for the Planning Committee recommending that the application either be approved or refused. The Committee will then determine the application.

Urbaser Balfour Beatty is committed to maintaining open channels of communication with the local community and stakeholders. The Consortium also proposes to establish a Community Liaison Group to further discuss the proposals with interested residents.
