Project Update Bulletin 4

The project update bulletin provides the latest progress on the construction of Gloucestershire’s Energy from Waste facility. The piling rigs arrived on site earlier in November and the piling process (creating concrete support structures in the ground to support the buildings and plant) is now underway.

Once the piles have been put in place, concrete capping beams will be cast to link the piles together to carry the weight of the buildings and plant down to the foundations. Work is nearing completion on the main site permanent roads within the site boundary, the laydown area, construction car park and the construction offices and welfare facilities, and drainage of the facility site and construction compound.

The temporary substation, power distribution and site lighting, within the site boundary, are also on the way to being completed. Progress has been maintained despite the very wet conditions experienced over 21st and 22nd November 2016. There are now some 50 staff and contractors active on the site; site safety and operating conditions are being maintained to a high standard.

Consistent with standard construction industry practice, work at the site will cease on 23rd December 2016 for the Christmas and New Year break. Site works will recommence on 3rd January 2017. 24/7 security is in place and will be maintained over the Christmas period.

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste facility is part of Gloucestershire Council’s wider waste and resources management strategy to reduce, recycle and recover waste materials across the county and to move away from reliance on end-of-life landfill.
