Meet Joanna, Health and Safety Advisor at Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility
/Joanna is the Health and Safety Advisor for Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility and has been with the company for just over a year.
Her role is centred around supporting Managers and Supervisors on safety, health and welfare matters to ensure we comply with statutory obligations, maintain a safe working environment and the wellbeing of staff, contractors, and visitors.
Joanna says: “It’s important we remember that safety isn’t one person’s job – everyone has a responsibility to ensure they keep themselves and their colleagues safe.”
Every day brings a different challenge, and the daily demands of Joanna’s role evolves with the site.
“Proactively monitoring, managing, and tracking changes around the site and in the industry is really important. This allows us to learn and adapt.”
Joanna works as part of a larger team of health and safety colleagues across other FCC facilities and makes sure there is consistency with our practices across other sites.
While a role in health and safety includes ensuring we remain compliant against company and regulatory requirements, it’s also essential to instil a proactive and positive attitude towards health and safety with staff. Joanna says that this is something that the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility shows growth in every day: “The managers at the facility engage well with staff and are very supportive with a positive health and safety approach.”
So what’s the priority at the moment for Joanna? Continuing to understand the operations and evolution of the site while supporting management in their commitment to a positive safety culture. The team is also preparing for audits against ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 international standards of Quality, Environment, Health and Safety.
