Community invited behind the scenes at Gloucestershire’s Energy from Waste Facility
/Members of the public are being offered the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility as part of a special Community Open Day on 24 October.
The event, which is held twice a year, will give visitors an exclusive insight into how household residual waste is converted into energy, helping to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and support more sustainable waste management.
Working with local authorities and businesses, the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility helps minimise landfill by recovering valuable resources wherever possible. Materials are reused where they can be, while remaining waste is converted into energy to generate electricity.
Visitors will explore key areas of the facility, hear from site experts and learn about the energy recovery process, responsible waste management and the important role the site plays in supporting Gloucestershire's waste infrastructure.
Three guided tours at 10am, 11.30am and 1pm will be available throughout the day, each lasting approximately one hour. Places are limited to 15 people per tour, and all visits must be booked in advance.
Rob Hayward, General Manager of the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility, said: “We're delighted to open our doors to the local community and give people the opportunity to see first-hand what happens to waste that cannot be recycled. We know many people are curious about how the facility operates, and these tours are a great way to answer questions, explain the technology we use and demonstrate how we're helping to minimise waste sent to landfill while recovering valuable resources.”
