Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility reports on annual performance

Enough electricity generated to power more than 25,000 homes for a year is among the key statistics announced by Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility in its annual performance figures.

The Facility handles household residual waste minimising the amount that goes to landfill, diverting over 90% and transforming it into valuable resources. In 2025, more than 138,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity was generated through combustion operations and more than 43,000 tonnes of materials were recovered for recycling which is enough to fill 15 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

A key activity of the Facility is its educational programme for the local community. Providing insight into the waste process by welcoming community groups, schools, and members of the public for tours and a behind the scenes look into sustainable waste management. In 2025, the Facility held 119 tours.

In total, the Facility combusted 186,817 tonnes of waste, exporting 123,663MWh of electricity generated in the process.

Rob Hayward, General Manager, said: “Effective waste management is crucial in the challenge to tackle climate change, and we’re pleased to share our performance figures from the last year.

“In collaboration with Gloucestershire County Council, we work hard to educate people around how their waste can be reduced, reused, and recycled before reaching us to recover its energy turning it into electricity.”
