Climate change heroes assemble! Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility’s competition launches

Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility today (13 October) launches its competition for local school children to join the fight against climate change in a creative way by designing a superhero to tackle the climate crisis.

The competition, that closes on 13 January, is designed to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) subjects and get young people thinking about how they can positively impact the environment and have fun with designing some creative ways a superhero could help tackle the reality of a climate emergency with a tool, superpower, or gadget.

Melanie de la Torre Zamora, Community Relationship Manager, said: “We’re excited to launch this competition encouraging children to engage creatively in the differences we can all make – big or small – to manage our impact on the environment.

“Children have a fantastic ability to ‘think outside the box’ when it comes to challenges, so we’re hoping to see lots of creative, unusual, and wacky suggestions for how their imagined superhero can help tackle climate change. There are no limitations on what they can submit.”

The competition is open to children from as young as 4 years old and will be judged in different age range categories. The prizes include £50 in vouchers for the winning entry in each age category and the equivalent in cash for the child’s school.
