Bottle Rocket Workshop Returns

Following last year’s success, the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility is bringing back its Bottle Rocket Workshop on Thursday 17th April 2025. Open to children aged 7-15 and their parents or guardians, the workshop blends creativity, science, and sustainability by turning everyday waste materials into high-flying rockets.

Held at the Facility’s Visitor Centre, the event starts at 10am and introduces participants to the principles of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through a hands-on experiment. Attendees will design, decorate, and build their own bottle rockets using repurposed plastic bottles and cardboard before launching them from the Visitor Centre Garden to see how far they can soar. Along the way, they’ll learn about aerodynamics, propulsion, and the importance of reusing materials in fun and practical ways.

Melanie de la Torre Zamora, Community Relationship Manager, said: "This workshop is a great opportunity for children to get hands-on with science and sustainability. It encourages problem-solving, creativity, and an appreciation for how waste materials can be given a new purpose. We’re delighted to bring it back and look forward to another exciting session with the local community."

The free two-hour session includes complimentary soft drinks, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

As part of the Facility’s commitment to sustainability education, this event is one of many community activities designed to inspire and engage local residents. To stay updated on future events, follow the Facility’s Facebook Group, visit the website, or subscribe to the quarterly newsletter.

Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To secure a place, email De La Torre Zamora, Melanie melanie.delatorrezamora@fccenvironment.co.uk or call 01452 379 886.
