Gloucestershire student takes part in work experience at the Facility

In June this year, the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility welcomed a year 11 student from Denmark Road High School in Gloucester for a week's work experience. The student spent time in different parts of the Facility, including with the finance, health and safety, management and control room teams, to gain a holistic understanding of what is required to deliver a renewable energy scheme. She was also able to see the various plant and equipment in operation to discover how the Facility works.

With a strong enthusiasm for physics, the student's favourite element was working with the Control and Instrumentation Technicians. She further noted that she had an interest in renewable electricity generation and how this was possible through the energy from waste process. The student was also interested in the Facility’s weighbridge, located at the entrance of the Site, which monitors the amount of waste delivered for processing at the Facility.

In response to her time at the Facility, the student said:

"I enjoyed my time working at the Facility. By working in an energy from waste plant, I am more aware of generating electricity from waste in a renewable way, with a minimal amount of impact on the environment."

Dan Pearson, General Manager at the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility, said:

“Education is a huge part of what we do here at the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility. We always welcome the opportunity to show young people how the Facility works, especially those who have an interest in engineering, physics and environmental sciences and wish to pursue it as a career.”

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility runs work experience placements in July of each year. If you would like to find out more about work experience for next year, please contact us here.
