In February 2020, the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste facility opened its doors to the public, receiving the first visitors to site.

To date, twenty organisations from Gloucestershire have been to visit the facility including Falfield Women’s Institute, Stroud District Youth Council (the recognised active voice for young people in the Stroud district, representing 11 to 18 year olds), and Stroud Civic Society.

All visitors have learnt about how the facility is minimising the amount of waste being sent to landfill and the positive impact it has, the process of recovering energy from waste and how this fits into their recycling and waste reduction habits. Since the facility has been fully operational, Gloucestershire has significantly minimised its reliance on landfill, thereby avoiding contribution to the production of methane, as well as being able to generate enough electricity to power around 25,000 homes.

The visits have been well received thus far:

“Really interesting to see the workings of the plant.”

“Everyone enjoyed it immensely and were very impressed with your knowledge and care that you showed to us all.”

“An excellent tour, well organised.”

Since mid-March 2020, due to the Covid-19 outbreak and Government restrictions, visits have paused for the time being.  Any pre-booked visits have been rescheduled and with new bookings being taken from the end of October 2020.

If you would like to book a visit to the site, whether it is for an individual, small group, or organisation, we are now taking bookings from the end of October 2020 and beyond. Contact us directly to arrange a tour.
