Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility Announces Autumn 2022 Open Day

  • The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility has announced that its next open day will take place on Saturday 12th November 2022.

  • Across three sessions, visitors will learn about the energy from waste process and how the Facility operates.

  • The Facility generates the equivalent electrical energy to power approximately 25,000 homes.

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility will be hosting its next open day on Saturday, 12th November 2022. The first open day in March 2022 was a fully booked event and with a full programme of site visits scheduled for the foreseeable future, this open day presents a rare opportunity for those who are interested in discovering more about the Facility. Visitors will learn about the energy from waste process, as well as seeing first-hand the various on-site plant and equipment which is used to generate the equivalent electrical energy to power approximately 25,000 homes.

The open day will be hosted in three, 1-hour sessions at 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm. Each session will begin with an educational film created by the Facility to explain the energy from waste process. Visitors will then be invited on a tour of the site, introducing them to different elements of the process including the waste cranes, the combustion grate, and the stack. The sessions are intended for small groups, including families, couples, and friends as each slot will host a maximum of 15 people.

This open day is part of an ongoing series of events that the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility intends to host with the aim of helping visitors to understand the processes involved in recovering energy and recyclables from household residual waste whilst diverting it from landfill.

Dan Pearson, General Manager, said:

“We believe that it is our responsibility to help educate and inform Gloucestershire residents about sustainable forms of waste management and what we do here on-site. We were thrilled with the success of the last open day as well as the continued demand for site visits which are currently fully booked up. We hope that even more new faces will come along to our autumn open day to learn about the process and the benefits of recovering energy from waste.”
