Construction pressure tests at the facility have now been completed and cold commissioning of the equipment is progressing to schedule.

The facility’s distributed control system, which transmits signals to each piece of equipment, has been successfully commissioned and approved as fit for operation, as well as the water treatment facility that supports the heating and cooling systems.

The process chemicals and fuel required for the commissioning and operation of the facility, including glycol and diesel, have now been received on site. The mobile plant used to transport the incinerator bottom ash within the facility is now on site, along with the various maintenance tools and equipment that will ensure future maintenance of the facility is completed to schedule.

The boiler maintenance overhead crane and waste handling cranes inside the buildings have also now been commissioned. In April, hot commissioning preparatory works started, including cleaning of the boiler internals. The next period will be focused on completion of the cold commissioning tests, including the turbine and other process systems such as waste handling cranes and fire detection and protection systems.

Finally, landscaping and site fencing, including pedestrian and vehicle access gates to ensure the security of the site during operations, are progressing at pace and will be completed next month.

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste facility is part of Gloucestershire’s Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy, which aims to reduce, recycle, and recover waste materials across the county, and move away from reliance on end-of-life landfill.
